If you’re running a SACMI rotary machine at full tilt, you know how tight the margins are. You’ve only got a tiny window to get that PET preform heated just right. If the heat is off by a fraction, the whole run is compromised. That’s why we built our infrared radiators to kill the start-up lag and make sure the heat actually gets deep into the plastic.
Heat that hits instantly
To keep up with those fast cycle times, we went with short-wave infrared. We use a high-wattage quartz filament that creates an immediate spike of heat. It’s fast. Really fast. This means your preform hits that critical glass transition temperature without you having to slow down the machine’s rotation. The second these lamps are wired up, they’re at full blast. No waiting around.
The nuts and bolts
We use high-purity quartz glass because, let’s be honest, cheap glass burns out the moment things get stressful. Inside, we’ve tuned the halogen gas mix to keep the filament steady so you aren’t dealing with flickering or inconsistent temps. As for the fit? We kept it simple. These are drop-in replacements for Sidel and SACMI setups. We also made sure the terminals are rock solid. In a high-vibration rotary environment, a loose connection leads to arcing, and arcing leads to downtime. We’ve seen it happen too many times.
The real-world trade-off
Here’s the thing: these radiators put out a massive amount of heat. That’s great for production speed, but it means you can’t slack on your cooling. Your oven blowers have to be working perfectly. If a fan dies or a vent gets blocked, that quartz envelope is going to overheat and crack. It’s a simple cause-and-effect. Plus, do yourself a favor and check your reflector alignment every single shift. You want that energy hitting the preform, not wasting it by heating up the machine frame. It keeps things efficient and keeps your gear lasting longer.
