
Getting the Heat Right for Husky HyPET Systems
If you’re running high-speed Husky HyPET systems, you already know that throwing more wattage at a PET preform isn’t the answer. It’s not about raw power. It’s about where that heat actually goes. The real struggle is getting the heat into the core of the plastic without torching the outside. That’s exactly why we built our IR lamps the way we did.
Getting Deep Into the Plastic
Here’s the problem: standard IR lamps often just bounce off the surface of thicker preforms. You end up with a “skin” that’s too hot and a center that’s too cold. When you go to blow that bottle, you get thin walls and weak spots. It’s a nightmare. We fixed this by tweaking the quartz blend and the way the filament is shaped. Instead of just hitting the surface, the energy actually sinks in. We’ve balanced the voltage and wattage so the heat stays dense and steady. When these lamps are running as they should, you get a smooth, consistent thermal profile from the top of the preform to the bottom. No guesswork.
The Hardware Side of Things
We didn’t want you to have to rewire your whole floor. These are simple drop-in replacements for your Krones or Husky setups. We also used heavy-duty connectors because we know how brutal high-cycle operations are. There’s nothing worse than a lamp arcing or burning out at the contact point right in the middle of a run. Plus, the quartz is tough enough to handle the constant “hot-cold-hot” cycling without cracking.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
Now, a heads-up. These lamps put out a massive amount of heat flux. Because of that, your oven’s airflow has to be on point. If your vents are clogged or your cooling zones are lagging, the ambient temperature inside the oven will skyrocket. If that happens, your preforms might start to deform before they even touch the blow mold. And one last tip:check your reflectors. If your reflectors are dirty, it doesn’t matter how good the lamp is. You’ll be forced to push the tubes harder to get the same result, which just kills the lifespan of the lamp. Give them a clean, and your gear will last a lot longer.
