
Stop the Constant Tube Burn-outs on Your SIG Blomax Line
If you’re tired of your SIG Blomax tubes popping left and right, you’ve probably spent some time blaming the power supply. But here’s the thing: it’s usually not the electricity. It’s the physical stress. High-speed PET blowing is brutal. Between the constant vibration and the wild swings in temperature, standard IR lamps just can’t keep up. They wear out. They snap. They fail. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we redesigned our replacement lamps to be a lot tougher.
Built to take the heat
Getting a PET preform soft enough to blow—without melting the neck—takes some serious heat. To handle that, we use high-purity quartz glass that won’t warp when things get intense. We also tweaked the filament tension and beefed up the end-caps. It’s a simple drop-in replacement, but it handles the daily grind much better than the OEM parts. It comes down to basic physics. If the filament stays centered, the lamp lives. When it sags, it hits the quartz wall, creates a hot spot, and—pop—you’re staring at a dead tube on the shop floor again.
The practical side of things
These fit right into your SIG Blomax housings. We kept the connectors standard, so you can just wire them up and get back to work. No need to mess with your circuitry. One quick heads-up, though. Making the lamp structurally stronger doesn’t mean it puts out more heat. If you try to crank up the wattage to shave a few seconds off your cycle time, you’re going to put a lot of pressure on your cooling blowers. Just make sure your cooling system can handle the ambient heat. Otherwise, you’re just moving the problem from the lamp to the reflector.
Less swapping, more running
At the end of the day, this is about your sanity (and your uptime). When you aren’t spending half your shift swapping out burnt-out tubes, you actually get to run bottles. It’s a small technical tweak that makes the whole plant feel a lot more stable.
