
Getting the Heat Right for Your Husky HyPET Line
If you’ve spent any time running a Husky HyPET high-speed line, you know the struggle. The biggest headache is always heat penetration. When the preform doesn’t heat up evenly all the way through the wall, you’re stuck with thin spots or that annoying pearlescence in your bottles. It’s frustrating. That’s exactly why we built our replacement lamps—to bridge that gap and get the heat where it actually needs to be.
The Secret is in the Soak
We don’t just blast the surface. We focused on short-wave infrared (SWIR) because it actually reaches the core of the PET. By tweaking the tungsten filament density and using high-purity quartz glass, we’ve managed to push more radiant flux into the material. This means the heat soaks deeper, even when you’re running tight dwell times. But here’s the thing: you have to get the voltage and wattage exactly right for your SMF blower oven. If you go too low, your cycle times drag. Go too high without checking your airflow, and you’ll end up scorching the preforms.
No-Fuss Hardware
We wanted these to be a “plug and play” situation. That’s why we use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. You just swap them in and get back to work. We also used a heavy-wall quartz envelope. Why? Because these tubes get incredibly hot, and cheap glass tends to bow under that kind of stress. Plus, we’ve seen way too many generic tubes die because the electrodes just can’t handle the constant, rapid cycling of a high-speed line. We reinforced the contact points so they don’t burn out at the ends.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
More penetration means more heat density. These lamps pack a massive amount of energy into a tiny space. Because of that, you’ve got to stay on top of your maintenance. Check your cooling fans. If they’re clogged with dust, the oven temperature will spike, and your heating profile will go all over the place. And a pro tip: keep those reflectors polished. If they’re dull, you’re basically throwing away 30% of the energy we’re pumping out. It’s a small job that makes a huge difference.
