
Stop Wasting Floor Space on Massive Brake Pad Ovens
Let’s be honest: traditional convection ovens are a pain. They work by heating up the air and hoping that heat eventually makes its way into the material. It’s slow. Because it takes so long, you end up with these giant tunnel ovens that stretch across your factory floor, eating up space you probably need for something else. We do things differently with shortwave infrared (IR). Here is the secret. Shortwave IR doesn’t bother with the air. It goes straight for the coating molecules, hitting them with energy instantly. Instead of waiting for the surface to get hot and slowly leak that heat downward, the coating cures from the inside out. It’s a night-and-day difference in how the material reacts. And the best part? Your floor plan opens up. If you’re currently lugging around a 20-meter tunnel, you can usually get the exact same results with an IR array that’s only 5 to 8 meters long. You keep your output, but you get your workspace back. We build these emitters to survive the brutal heat of a friction material line. Plus, you can set them up in zones. This lets you dial in the temperature ramp-up so the coating doesn’t “skin over” too fast and trap solvents inside. Now, I won’t tell you it’s magic. There are things to watch out for. IR is aggressive. If you crank the wattage too high or mount the lamps too close, you’ll scorch the surface or end up with patchy curing. You’ve got to get your conveyor speed exactly right. You’ll also want a cooling zone at the end of the line so the pads can stabilize before they hit the packing station. Oh, and make sure your electrical panel can handle the initial kick when those lamps first fire up. It takes a bit of tuning, but once it’s dialed in, it just works.
